Martinique: rather classical beginnings then evolution towards jazz, Jamaican music and hip-hop.
Dizzydjol (Dizzy Djol) is a young musician, author and composer originating from Martinique (French West Indies). His artist's name comes from a nickname given by his musician friends from Montpellier (South of France). During his childhood he is bathed by Caribbean music (biguine, zouk, salsa, reggae, dancehall ...), jazz and samba. His father, amateur guitarist, makes him take classical guitar lessons, "for good bases" as he used to say. As for him, He is very soon attracted to jazz and begins to learn by heart Wes Montgomery's solos.
Dizzy becomes passionate about jazz piano after being conquered by regretted Kenny Kirkland's improvisation technique, he discovered on BET Jazz. He begins to practise self-taught piano. At high school, he befriends very gifted pianist classmates who are now all recognized musicians: Guy Marc Vadeleux, Frantz Laurac and Michael Perret. He becomes acquainted at Fort de France with talented pianist Victor Adelaide with whom he sympathizes and talks about music. In fact, at that time, his interest in music is not confined to jazz; he begins to take interest in hip-hop culture and rap. Influenced by Afro-American and Jamaican artists in vogue, he begins to compose his first beats, riddims and reggae lyrics.
In 1998, Dizzy gets his baccalaureate degree and decides to "pursue his studies in France" (as they use to say in the French West Indies). He leaves Martinique and therefore joins the Faculty of Sciences of Montpellier University. But he will realize, after some time, that he was not really motivated by scientific studies...

Shortly after his arrival in Montpellier, he purchases a synth (synthesizer) and becomes very enthusiastic about this instrument which proves to be an invaluable help in the domains of musical composition, musical arrangement and orchestration. In 2001, he decides definitively to direct himself towards a musical career. He is therefore registered in musicology, always at the University of Montpellier... He obtains a "maîtrise" degree in “Performing Arts and Music” in 2005. In addition to his university studies, Dizzy composes and records regularly in his home studio with a group of friends. The Stone Raid collective was born from these meetings. Initially, it consists of MasterMind, Showda, Tidjany, Kharmosa and DizzyDjol. Afterwards, other artists such as Taïmé Micky (from Tsunami Crew), AmandaJoy, Iéiazel, Gladys, Loey (from Skanda, The Guard, Jayadeva Crew…), Anaïs, Calif (from RV SQUAD), Skeenow, Izza, Fox G (from TFC), will collaborate with Stone Raid, bringing their color, their "vibe"...
The sound universe of Stone Raid group is very diversified and reflects the origins, influences and sensitivities of its members: rap, hip-hop, ragga, reggae, dancehall, Latin music, crunk, RnB, funk, soul, zouk, bêlê, sega, maloya, samba, bossa nova, jazz and so on. In short: various musics of the New World (“musics of the world”?) which, as we know, owe much to Africa. Within the group Stone Raid, Dizzy serves as "DJ" and "beatmaker" (hence his other nickname of "maestro beatmaker" - somewhat joke about his classical formation). Beats, instrumentals, riddims: that is his job. But he is also a singer…
In 2006, Dizzydjol mixes the project “Stone Radio Vol.1: Tropical waves”, a street album of 28 tracks on which can be found reggae, hip-hop, dancehall, salsa, a few touches of vintage soul, and Jazz, among others. Many other projects are in gestation…
